BENJAMIN ESH serves as the Director of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church of Wheaton. There, he leads the congregation into God’s presence through various expressions of worship and musical expertise. He is the also the Founder, Arranger, and Composer of The Dulcimer Hymnal. Benjamin’s enthusiastic approach, personable style, along with a keen ear for vocal balance has him celebrated as a vibrant ambassador for music and an inspiring artistic leader. Throughout the course of over a decade, Benjamin served as the Music Director of Immanuel Baptist Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church and the International Community Church, where he creatively led worship through developing the musicianship of the Chancel Choir, Chimes Ensemble, Praise Bands and Children’s Music Ministry.
As a classically trained musician, notable past engagements include highly praised productions of Assassins, As You Like It, Evita, Grease, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, as well as various featured performances by the Judson University Jazz Ensemble.
In addition to producing and directing special events, musicals and programs, his experience with technical aspects (working knowledge of circuit boards, processors, microphones, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming) adds to his repertoire and skillset.
Benjamin, alongside a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra, was also featured by The Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in a special concert presentation entitled, “Music for Dulcimer and Bass.”
Deeply committed to bringing new works to life, Benjamin Esh is the Founder, Arranger, and Composer of The Dulcimer Hymnal and has released two self-published books within this organization. He has also further developed his musicianship through mastering various instruments including piano, guitar, cajon, ukulele, dulcimer, bass, cello, and autoharp.
Benjamin graduated from Judson University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Ministry and Vocal Performance.
Benjamin resides in the quaint suburb of Lombard, IL with his wife, Sarra and two children (Henry – 2 & William – 6 months).
